As some readers may know, one of my hobbies is making videos. Not porn films, or the usual hyped up Camtasia screen captures so favoured by the internet guru’s, but REAL videos. In particular, I love creating Special Effects, and some of that involves creating props and models.
I suppose that’s why I find the skill of some model train enthusiasts endearing. Note, I said some. For some people, an oval of track in the bedroom, with perhaps a few trees and outbuildings is their idea of a model layout. But when you see some layouts with mountains and roadways, outbuildings, working funfairs, trains that belch smoke syncronised with sound effects, well, it’s just a whole new ball game
A while back, I developed a script that people use to create and sell their own CD’s and DVD’s. It has a lot of features – but maybe a few more than the average user would need!
So I developed a free “Lite” version. After you have entered a few details about your product via the admin screen, you simply add one line of code to your web page. This SHOULD work with sites such as MySpace, Facebook, eBay and of course your own websites. This means that it could be used by budding rock bands promoting their bands on MySpace as well as entreprenuers selling via other avenues.
I’m currently trying out a new script I discovered recently that allows you to “pull” videos related to a particular keyword, and display them on your own website. These pages are – in theory – then picked up by Google, and could start sending traffic to your site.
More than that, it also allows you to “monetise” the pages by adding Adwords etc to your site. I’m currently trying out my own Poppa-Banner script, Amazon ads and ClickBank ads.
It also features a search box. Again, the idea is that these searches generate physical pages on my server, which again could be picked up by Google.
On December 1st 2009, it became a FDC “requirement” that all websites carried legal ‘Disclaimers’ and ‘Privacy Policies’. In a nutshell, it meant that anyone visiting a site had a right to know what the webmaster intended to do with their information.
For example, when you downloaded that free ebook, and joined their mailing list, did it give them the right to sell your email address to their friends? What sort of ‘personal information’ about you would they store in their databases. What would happen to your credit card information. So on and so on. In short, the user had the right to know what you intended to do with their information.
Well, Christmas 2009 has been and gone, and people now start turning their attention to the January Sales … and then start dreaming about their Summer holiday.
Alas, because of the “economic downturn”, not everybody can afford to go jetting off on their usual overseas jaunts this ear. They will be looking for value for money holidays closer to home. For people in the UK, they might start to consider holidays from the likes of “Haven”, “Pontins” … or even Butlins.
Gone are the days of damp, wooden chalets, communial toilet blocks and washrooms. They no longer wake you at 8:00 every morning with a sunny voice booming out of the tannoy system. Long gone are the dodgy “entertainment” acts! Yes, they’re now much more ‘upmarket’.
Having said that, for some “posh people”, the mere thought of a package holiday is simply too ‘down market’ for them to even consider! Well, that’s their loss.
But if you fancy the idea of having well furnished accomodation that looks out over the sea, all day entertainment under a weather-proof “Big Top” area, Children’s Entertainers to keep the little ones amused, sports and talent competitions, several bars and eating establishments and lot more beside, then maybe you should take a fresh look at Butlins

After a few years in the wilderness, my blog finally got three comments … although they were not exactly complimentary.
Basically, the comments said that my site looked like something from the 90’s, and I was so self-opinionated that I was “full of it”. And as such, my products were probably crap anyway, so why should he even consider buying any of my products. I wasn’t interested in helping people make money, but was only in it for the profits I could get from other people. (Show me a trader that DOESN’T adopt the latter option!) I might add that the poster did not have his own website, nor did they leave a legitimate email address!
Have you ever visited what’s technically called a “squeeze page” ?The idea is you enter your email address, and get access to get a free ebook you can download? The webmaster then relentlessly bombards you with an endless stream of marketing emails. It’s reached the stage now where I instantly click away as soon as I see one of these opt in pages.
Or at least I did … until I discovered a loop hole today. (The marketing types are gonna HATE this tip – but serves them right for using insecure code!)
I have just visited a website that – thanks to Paypal’s basic payment button format – allowed me to download every report that the vendor was selling!! (Don’t worry, I informed the webmaster of my ‘hack’, and we worked out a deal) But it set me thinking. How many other vendors are losing sales via similar links?
UPDATE: It appears that PayPal have also noticed this glitch as their Button Factory now hosts the actual HTML sales code on their server. Now, instead of pasting the full button code on your web pages, they provide you with a secure HTML link (_s-xclick) that you paste on your sales pages. But I’m sure many sites are still using the older link (_xclick)
DOWNLOAD ANY OF MY SCRIPTS (Worth up to $49.95) TOTALLY FREE
I have been creating PERL scripts for several years now. But this year, I have decided to move on to other ventures, and put selling my scripts onto the “back burner”. But I’ve devoted too musch time to each script to simply let them gather virtual dust on my hard-drive. That’s why I’m giving them away!
OK, so I’m not daft.
I’m not letting you have ALL of them free.
